Meg became more frustrated with Mr. Jenkins because he made her realize that her father had left and wont be coming back. She was mad at him for being so cold to her and she also responded with a very cold attitude.

She made a guess that the postmaster at the post office had read her fathers last letter and had spread the news among the people.
