If you used a living green plant in this investigation, instead of germinating seeds, the difficulties would be: The plant would be going through photosynthesis as well as cellular respiration. Which can change your results in the actually rate of cellular respiration.
Explanation:
In this lab investigation we tested the rate of cellular respiration by construct the two microrespirometers and place the germinating seeds inside one them (experiment) and beads inside the other (control). Germination itself is the process of seeds developing into new plants. We added a small drop of manometer fluid to the tip of each capillary tube of the microrespirometers, then inserted the microrespirometers into a 20 degree Celsius water bath. Then, we observed the manometer fluid and record the place of the manometer fluid for every five minutes. Also if you used a living green plant in this investigation instead of germinating seeds, there would be production of O2 and uptake of CO2 by photosynthesis and it would affects the measured uptake of O2 and the measured production of CO2 in respiration.
Cellular respiration itself is a set of metabolic reactions and processes that take place in the organisms cells to convert biochemical energy from nutrients into adenosine triphosphate and then release waste products.
