Adjectives in French.

Adjectives are qualities or characteristics assigned to a person, animal or thing, in French, these characteristics can have both gender (male or female) and number (singular or plural).

In French, some adjectives only have difference either in their gender or in their number as shown below, taking as an example the adjective "sérieux:"

  • Sérieux: Male and singular.
  • Serieuse: Female and singular.
  • Sérieuse: Male and plural.
  • Sérieuse: Female and plural.

As can be seen in the previous case, the only way that differs from the others is the male and singular of the adjective, therefore, the best way to use them properly within a sentence is to memorize them is their different genders and numbers.
