Anyone who uses a vehicle in Texas while residing or working in the state for more than 90 days must register their vehicles.
If you are a new Texas resident, you are allowed to drive with your valid and unexpired licence from another U.S. state, U.S territory or a Canadian province for up to 90 days after moving here.
Prior to the end to the 90 days, new Texas residents must apply for a Texas driving licence. The old driving licence must be surrendered. There is no need to take the knowledge or skills exam.
All applicants under 18 must take the skills exam even if they hold a valid drivers license from another state or country.
