Magic Island is a poem that describes the lives of immigrants who reflect on their past life in their home country compared to the freedom that they now enjoy. The feeling is weird and unreal as they wonder at the reality they now experience.

Set in a beach, the poet describes the immigrants as having fun and enjoying the "small pleasures" of life. He enjoys the freedom of saying that he loves his wife while his wife basks in happiness as she carries "an infant".

The family is happy but there is also a fear of the unknown as they suspect a lot of sunshine and expect rain.
