Explanation:

The French and Indian War (1754-1763) pitted the North American British colonies against the French colonies and their Indian allies. Part of a much larger European conflict, the Seven Years War, it ended with a British victory. Among other things, the conflict is remembered by the massacre of Fort William Henry, where in August 1757 the victorious Indians massacred the defeated British soldiers. This led to deep hatred by the British.

The Treaty of Paris that settled the conflict ceded control of the French colonies to France. The Royal Proclamation of 1763 was enacted to deal with these new territories. This proclamation drew a line at the west end of the Allegheny Mountains (the Proclamation Line), which prohibited American colonists of moving or acquire lands west of this line.

The conflict left the economies of Britain and France deeply indebted. In order to make ends meet, the British government imposed heavy taxes on the American colonies. These taxes were one of the major reasons behind the American Revolution.
