In "The Next Adventure," Malik learns that he is relocating to Japan. We learn that he only had a week to process this news, and he does not take them well. Malik does not want to move, and he is afraid of what is waiting for them. This causes him to have a tense relationship with his mother.

When the two move, Malik misses his friends terribly. We learn that he struggles with the fact that he has left his life behind, and he spends most of his time on social media and talking to his friends online. He refuses to leave the base and the relationship with his mother continues to be difficult.

However, Malik begins to change little by little. He gets comfortable with being away, and more interested in discovering the place they are in. The relationship with his mother improves. When the two have to move again, Malik is excited about the new adventure and does not find it as difficult anymore.
