Look at the picture.

We have a parallelogram and two congruent triangles.

The formula of an area of a parallelogram:

[tex]A_P=bh[/tex]

We have b = 5 and h = 2. Substitute:

[tex]A_P=(5)(2)=10[/tex]

The formula of an area of a triangle:

[tex]A_T=\dfrac{bh}{2}[/tex]

We have b = 10 and h = 4. Substitute:

[tex]A_T=\dfrac{(10)(4)}{2}=\dfrac{40}{2}=20[/tex]

Area of this figure:

[tex]A=A_P+2A_T\\\\A=10+(2)(20)=10+40=50[/tex]
