For 5 pounds of jelly beans and 3 pounds of almonds, the total cost is $21

multiply the 2nd equation by -2

-10j -6a = -42

add the 1st and the modified 2nd together

2j+6a = 24

2j+6a = 24

2(2.25) +6a =24

4.50 +6a =24

subtract 4.5 from each side
