The populist party had hopes for democratic party since they tended to have somewhat similar beliefs as them. Most of the populist demands, however, were not shared by republicans OR democrats, and were led to creating a third party. William Jennings Bryan, a democratic candidate, did adopt their agenda and become a platform for their voice eventually.
