On April 14, 1912, the Titanic's maiden voyage to New York struck an iceberg. Of the more
than 2,200 passengers and crew on board, only about one third survived. Similarly, you
find yourself on a smaller ship that is about to sink. As in the Titanic, only 30% will survive. In this case, that means that 4 of the 12 passengers will survive. This assignment asks you to determine which four of the twelve passengers or crew that will survive. Provide a response to the following questions:
1. Which individuals did you select to survive
and why?
2. Do you believe that there are certain people
in our society that are more important than
others? If so, who are they? Was this part of
your consideration process in selecting
survivors?
3. Can you think of examples of situations in
real life where life-and-death decisions are
made about people solely based on their
position or occupation? Explain.
