An idiophone is a musical instrument that creates sound by vibration of the entire instrument. Types of idiophones are:
struck idiophones, also called concussion idiophones. This type is the most common. These idiophones vibrate after being struck, which can be done directly with a hand or stick (e.g. triangle, wood block, marimba) or indirectly, by scraping or shaking (e.g. maracas, flexatone);
plucked idiophones (Jew's harp);
blown idiophones (e.g. aeolsklavier);
friction idiophones (glass harmonica, glass harp, nail violin).
