There are many ways in which Shakespeare draws his audience into a suspenseful story. One of the most important ones is by using dramatic elements in Act I. Some of the elements are the introduction of a mysterious and ominous setting (a castle in Denmark at night) and the presence of a ghost who reveals some mysterious secret (King Hamlet). By revealing these details, Shakespeare tries to increase the suspense of his story and in this way, draw his audience in.
