You first have to find the length of each side.

AD=4

Since this is a quadrilateral, two sides will have the same length, in this case, they all do so you can pick any two sides.

4(4)=16.
Using my makeshift coordinate plane (where every two squares is a multiple of 2), you can see that there is a distance of 4 units between each coordinate, A to B to C to D.  Because of this information, you can use the area formula for a rectangle:  A = l * w:

A = l * w
A = 4 * 4
A = 16 square units or 16 units²
