How did the Holocaust finally end?

The Holocaust was the systematic, state-run murder by the Nazis of people they considered to be undesirable for their ideal state. The "undesirable" people included Jews, Slavs, Roma, political opponents, prisoners of war, Jehovah's Witnesses, the physically and mentally challenged, and homosexuals. The Holocaust started in 1933, when Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany, and ended in 1945, after Germany surrendered to World War II.
