(b) Consider a 4-stroke 4-cylinder petrol engine operating on the ideal Otto cycle. The engine is designed to have a cylinder bore of 260 mm, a crank radius of 125 mm, and a clearance volume of 1.4 L. The working conditions at the beginning of compression are given as 27°C and 100 kPa; and the highest temperature of the cycle must not exceed 950°C. Utilizing the cold-air-standard assumptions, sketch the P-y and T-s diagrams of the cycle and then determine: (i) the mean effective pressure, (ii) the thermal efficiency and (iii) the net power output of the engine in kW at a crankshaft speed of 3000 rpm.
