at very singular man, old Doctor Heidegger, once invited four
able friends to meet him in his study. There were three
-bearded gentlemen, Mr. Medbourne, Colonel Killigrew, and
Sascoigne, and a withered gentlewoman whose name was the
w Wycherley. They were all melancholy old creatures, who had
unfortunate in life, and whose greatest misfortune it was that
were not long ago in their graves. Mr. Medbourne, in the vigor
is age, had been a prosperous merchant, but had lost his all by a
tic speculation, and was no little better than a mendicant
