Order the steps of how to properly take blood pressure.
1. Identify patient and explain procedure.
2. Record BP. Clean and put away equipment.
3. Tighten the thumbscrew on the valve.
4. Listen for heart sound to end. Take note of when last sound is heard.
5. Open valve slowly. If sound is heard, reinflate cuff to 30 mmHg above sound.
6. Locate brachial artery and place the bell of the stethoscope over it.
7. Place earpieces of the stethoscope in ears.
8. Listen for heart sound to begin. Take note of when first beat is heard.
9. Inflate cuff to 170 mmHg.
10. Open valve and release air.
11. Wash hands and assemble equipment.
12. Apply cuff to patient's arm- about one inch above anticubital space.
