Two people recently traveled to another country and purchased a few sculptures made of ivory and brought them back to the United States. Elephant husk ivory is banned in many parts of the world. The sculptures were found by law enforcement officers and taken in as evidence. While analyzing the evidence, a forensic scientist extracted DNA from the ivory and performed a test on it that allowed the DNA to be compared to the DNA of an elephant.
