Not only is he part of a family who is experiencing financial difficulties, but he also navigates a challenging environment where he witnesses neighbourhood gang violence, while dealing with bullying at school. Jake's parents work long hours, leaving ver little time to give him emotional support. Because of the stress and hardships of his daily Jake abuses alcohol and has experimented with substances such as marijuana and coc He constantly battles with feelings of inferiority and engages in risky behaviour.
