Metals are on the left side of the period table (Except H). True metals are in the middle. Metalloids are between metals and nonmetals. Nonmetals are on the right, with noble gases in the right vertical column. Metals tend to bind with nonmetals in ionic bonds, and nonmetals bind to nonmetals in covalent bonds. Noble gases are unreactive because they have a full octet.
