Cat Litter: A beaker was placed on the balance, weighing around 66.976g. Next, the beaker weighing two spoonfuls of cat litter weighed 83.046g. When we subtracted the numbers we got 16.07g which equals the cat litter weight only. After we poured the cat litter into the oil and water mixture, we noticed that it only picked up some of the mixture but not all. It started looking lumpy and full but still had much of the mixture to separate from. When we weighed the container with oil, water, and cat liter it weighed 105.212g. We then scooped out the cat litter with a spoon onto the clean weighing beaker, and the weight came out to 66.967g, we subtracted that number from the original weight of the cat litter and got 38.246g. Finally, we subtracted the original weight of water and oil, about 85.146g, from the final weight of 38.246g which we got
46.9g for amount of liquid left.
Dog hair: A weighing boat was placed on a balance alone and weighed 2.105g. Next, we put the dog hair on the boat, and it came to 2.261g. We subtracted those numbers and got 0.156g for the weight of the dog hair. After, we put the dog hair in the mixture of water and oil we noticed that the hair did absorb some of the mixture but it did not have all the capacity to absorb all of it since its so little hair. We put the dog hair on the weighing boat and got 12.037g. We then subtracted it from the original weight of the dog hair and got 11.881g. Finally, we subtracted the original weight of water and oil, 85.146g, from the final weight of 11.881 g and got 73.256g for liquid left.
