Students will complete a ‘living’ land acknowledgement, writing 500-700 words describing their relationship and connection to the place they currently live. This should include recognition of what/whose traditional Indigenous/treaty territory you reside in and how that recognition figures into your relation to that place (or doesn’t). While not mandatory, creative elements can also be included, such as photos, maps, or really anything that helps further represent your connection and relationship to place.
This is an informal assignment, and while it may look like a more traditional land acknowledgment for some, for others, it could be a brief autobiography of their relationship to their home.
