In response to offensive actions taken against Albanians in Kosovo by the Serbian President Milosevic, NATO initiated an air campaign in 1999. From 24 March to 9 June, NATO air forces flew over 38,000 sorties utilizing over 560 USAF aircraft. Ultimately over 13,800 airmen were deployed in support of the effort, which stabilized the Kosovo region and ended violent Serbian actions taken against civilians.
