Make-up sentences using figurative language. The sentences must be about you, me or Live Oak. Do not take a sentence I provided as an example and make a tiny change and call it your own.

1. Internal: conflict within character's mind, deciding about what to do, struggling with right and wrong

2. External: conflict with outside force, fighting, arguing, obstacles in the way

3. Flashback: interrupting present action in story to give background information, a character remembers back to events that happened in the past

4. Foreshadowing: hints and clues and author places in the story line that intrigue a reader and make you know something is going to happen later in the story.

5. Hyperbole: strong exaggeration to make a point

6. Idiom: the actual meaning is quite different from the literal meaning, what you say is not what you really mean

7. Imagery: any writing in which the descriptions appeal to the five senses (smell, taste, feel, sound or visual)

8. Metaphor: Metaphor is when you compare unlike objects using is, are or was.

9. Onomatopoeia: a word that is spelled in a way so when you say it, you sound like the sound the thing makes

10. Personification: giving an inanimate object, human characteristics

11. Setting: time and place in which a story happens
