Compare and contrast the arguments presented by Carnegie and McNeill regarding the
proper distribution of wealth, workers conditions and quality of life, and the responsibility of corporate leaders to their workers. McNeill focused on the conditions of railroad workers and while Carnegie doesn’t specifically address railroads, he was heavily invested in railroad corporations and Carnegie steel made railroads possible.
Organize your essay around 3 key themes. For example: who builds wealth in the United States, the impact of technological and industrial advancement on workers, the impact of mass production on economic conditions, wages and working conditions for employees, labor unions (Carnegie claims unions are dangerous – why?), the concentration of wealth in the hands of a few, social and cultural opportunities for class mobility among the working class, etc. These are just a few suggestions for organizational themes but feel free to organize your body paragraphs around
different themes. Be sure to include specific evidence from both sources in each body paragraph, including at least 1 quote from each source (2 quotes total per paragraph).
