Sometimes you need to leave a road to avoid a hazard or emergency. When you do so, you should keep in mind that:

a) You should always accelerate to get off the road quickly.
b) Leaving the road is never a safe option.
c) You should steer smoothly to the left if possible.
d) You should abruptly brake to stop on the road shoulder.
