To get a look at what Sociology is truly about, this week you will have a norm-violating assignment, or what is called a breaching experiment. Norm-violating activities might include staring at a stranger in an elevator, standing a bit too close to someone at the supermarket, loudly burping in a public place, or eating a type of food with your hands when you should be using utensils (spaghetti). Be creative but not creepy with this assignment. Don’t scare anyone and do nothing illegal! Make sure you notice the reactions of people around you. You will post your breaching experiment and the reactions. Guidelines Post an initial discussion post (10 points) over the discussion topic. You must also respond to at least two different students each week (10 points), this does not include the Introduction Discussion. To receive full credit for your initial post and two responses you must provide an adequate discussion. To be considered an adequate discussion your post and responses must be more than three sentences in length. These three sentences must be complete sentences. You are discussing, not making a statement (although, through your adequate discussion you can make a statement). Examples of what are not considered a complete sentence: I agree! You are right! That is awesome! Great post! Or any other word combination that is similar to the examples.
