Diffusion in Your Eye- CER writing
The cornea of the human eye does not have blood vessels to support its cells with oxygen. Instead, cells of the cornea are supplied with oxygen from the atmosphere. The outer cells of the cornea act as a semipermeable membrane. They allow oxygen and carbon dioxide to diffuse in both directions, but keep pathogens out. If the atmosphere is 21% oxygen and the cornea contains 15% oxygen, which direction will more of the oxygen molecules travel; into the cornea or out of the cornea? Support your claim with evidence and explain your reasoning.
