Managerial Economics: A Review of Empirical Studies" by Steven N. Durlauf and Lawrence E. Blume
This activity is designed to enable you to enhance your analytical skill by critically reviewing journal articles and similar scientific works related to topics in the stated course. The review involves identification of the theme the paper attempts to address, evaluation of the theories the author presents as a basis of the study, assess the design & methods the study employed and a comment on validity of the position the author has taken. More importantly, you should evaluate conclusion of the article in light of the existing literature and also comment as to which particular theory it approves or disproves. After selecting one of the articles related to economics/managerial economics or any economics or business journal from the internet or elsewhere, specifically, your review should address the following vital issues:
(1) What is the major them of the article?
(2) What are the theories discussed in the paper and how do they compare?
(3) Are the particulars in the research design and methods appropriately stated? Justify.
(4) If the author argues supporting/rejecting a theory, what are her/his reasons and how valid are the reasons?
(5) How well are conclusions of the article aligned with the findings of the study?
(6) What exactly does the work contribute and relate to the overall topic of your course?
(7) In your opinion, what were the strengths and weaknesses of the paper?
Your review report should contain the following sections
1) Summary of the article focusing on the following major issues (maximum 2 pages)
- Purpose of the article/ Problem statement
- Specific objectives it tries to achieve
- Hypotheses (if any)
- Data used (including its type-Quantitative or qualitative)
- Design & Methods employed
- Findings, Conclusions, and future research direction recommended.
2) Your evaluation of the article based on the points 2 through 4. (maximum 1/2 page)
3) Your comment on point number 5 (maximum ½ page)
4) Your opinion about the strengths and weaknesses of the article and the lesson you have harvested from it (maximum ½ page)
Note: the review report should not exceed 6 pages maximum
