A large horizontal axis wind turbine has a rotor diameter of 80 m at a hub-height of 90 m. It operates at
a rotational speed of 15 rpm with a combined efficiency of the gearbox and generator of 95% to produce 2 MW
of electrical output power.
(a) If the hub height wind speed is 12 m/s, calculate Cp (the power coefficient) of the rotor.
(b) Write down the tip speed ratio and hence CQ (the torque coefficient).
(c) Estimate the wind speed at a 10 m high met mast adjacent to the wind turbine.
