When the word times is dictated and means the number of times a thing was done, the letter x can be used. Only use x with numerals–you wouldn't say x two. And x is lowercase. Sometimes you will see this with a space between the x and numeral for easier readability, but this is a style preference issue. Also acceptably edited as x 2 and times 2.
