Bandwidth, symbol rate and power
Consider a wireless system operating over a license-free ISM band at a center frequency fc=914.5Mhz with bandwidth B=2 W=400kHz, where W is the lowpass overall channel bandwidth. The average signal-to-noise ratio, S/N, is measured as 25 dB. The following ("single-carrier") proposals are considered:
A. BPSK modulation. SRRC pulses, α=0.05.
B. QPSK modulation. SRRC pulses, α=0.35.
C. 16-QAM modulation. SRRC pulse, α=0.5.
(a) For each scheme,
i. Determine the bit rate Rb(bps)
ii. Evaluate the average bit error probability Pb of each scheme
(b) Compare the three competing proposals. Which one would you choose and why?
