The study of robotics has evolved a lot in recent decades. In fact, in this one century of history, the term robot initially evolved from a word contained in a tale, in this case, the word "robota" which means (in the local language) "compulsory service" or "forced activity". From this word came the translation "robot" from English and translated into Portuguese as "robô" initially having this concept of a "slave worker" made by mechanical creatures in a similar way to humans (nowadays, the concept of robot is much more sophisticated and complex as we will see throughout this chapter).

A while after the play, the first human-looking mechanism called the Televox Robot by Roy Wensley was presented at the 1927 World Exhibition in New York. Then, in 1928, another similar doll was presented in Japan with the ability to move a few joints in the body.

Both of these machines were only intended for entertainment, however, they continued indirectly helping to create the concept of robots for performing useful work.

Despite more than 100 years of use, due to its great evolution, nowadays there are some misconceptions about the current definition of robot.

About the robot definition, and according to what we saw in our e-book, elaborate a robot definition for today's robots.
