BCG Matrix for Amazon
1. Find Amazon's most recent Annual Report or 10K to determine components/goods/divisional financial data and locate revenue and operating profits per the branch of analysis listed above. The entire circle represents total revenues for that branch, and the shaded pie portion represents the operating profits.
2. Identify the industry for each operating branch above (Amazon has many different industries) to find out its relative share position and divide the market share for each operating branch by the market share of the largest rival in each industry for that operating unit (this gives you a relative market share position in an industry and is the x-axis on the BCG.)
3. Determine the Industry Sales Growth Rate and put it on the y-axis of the BCG, and place your "circle with the shaded pie section" at the intersection of the X and Y values.
4. Depending on where your "Circle" (components/goods/divisional) is placed at the intersection of the X-Y values, it would be classified as a Star, Question Mark, Cash Cow, or Dog.
I need to see a visual of this and not directly written in words.
