For the part of the learning activity, I want you to get behind a particular theory.
While each has strengths and weaknesses (and I hope you'll address those along
the way), is there a theory that you think will get it right most of the time. In other
words, when it comes to deciding what action or policy is right, is one of these
theories more reliable or better suited to your intuitions about what you ought to
do? You might consider which theory gets the clearest, best, or "right" answer in
each of these cases when you "think like" someone adhering to that theory. In order
to help give you some substance, we'll evaluate some variations on a famous case
called the "Trolley Problem" developed in the 1960's by philosopher Phillipa Foot.
The variations of this case can help you evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of
each of these theories.
