There is a well-documented "healthy immigrant" effect, whereby recent immigrants are healthier than the Canadian population. Table SA1 provides some summary statistics from the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) for the year 2014. Each cell contains the proportign of respondents by immigrant type (Canadian born or Recent Immigrant) within a given characteristic (health status, age-group, education level). Health status is measured by the hospital admission in the past 12 months. True/False/Uncertain. Recent immigrants are healthier because they are older and have lower levels of education, which increases their demand for health capital (as predicted by the Grossman Model's investment demand for health).
