Answer the question below in 1-2 paragraphs. Use specific examples, terms, events, and people! You have now had the opportunity to read and study two different versions of a flood myth from Middle Eastern cultures. First, the story of the flood was found in Gilgamesh, and now the Genesis account of Noah building the arc. There are incredible similarities between these flood stories and others found in cultures all over the world (Greece, China, North America, etc). These sorts of stories that occur across cultures lead to an interesting debate among historians. Does the fact that so many cultures tell similar stories mean that the event actually happened? Or does it just mean that this story is so old it predates humans spreading all over the world? What do you think the similarities between the two stories mean? Why do you think that? How should historians, archeologists, and other scholars treat these myths and legends? Why?
