Discuss with your student why we need to eat proteins, fats, carbohydrates, and vitamins and minerals to stay healthy. What are the benefits of eating a healthy and balanced diet? What are some foods that contain proteins? What are some foods that contain fats? What are some foods that contain carbohydrates? Explain to your student that eating right and getting enough physical activity makes you feel good about yourself and helps to keep you at a healthy weight.
Activity for Mastery: Have your student keep a food journal this week. Ask your student to go over each meal and identify the proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals that were consumed. Was this a balanced meal? Why/why not?
