"Why are newer stars metal-rich, while older stars are metal-poor?" Two astronomy students gave the following explanations on their final exams:
Student A: Stars turn hydrogen into metals. When a large star dies it releases the metals, which become part of new stars.
Student B: Newer stars use metals within their cores, and as stars become older, they lose more and more metals.
Do you agree or disagree with either or both of the students? Explain your reasoning.
