Slide the viewing screen up and down the length of the optics track until the image of the crossed-arrow target is in focus on the screen (There will be a black “X”).
Using the graduated scale on the optics track, determine the object distance do and the image distance di. Record these values in Table 1 in the Data Analysis section below.
Slide the lens holder 5 cm farther down the track, away from the light source.
Slide the viewing screen up and down the length of the optics track until the image of the crossed-arrow target is again in focus on the screen.
Record the new object distance and image distance next to Trial 2 in Table 1.
Repeat the data collection steps three more times, increasing the distance between the lens holder and the light source by 5 cm in each trial. Record the object distance and corresponding image distance for each trial into Table 1.
